The Art of Me Milwaukee postcard

Upstream Arts is thrilled to be returning to Milwaukee next week to collaborate with The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center (JCC) on The Art of Me, a FREE public photography exhibit and performance featuring adults with disabilities. The public events will take place beginning at 6:30 PM on Thursday, February 11, 2016 in the JCC’s Community Hall.

The photography exhibit will feature self-portraits created by members of the JCC’s Chaverim program for adults with special needs, under the direction of professional teaching artists from Upstream Arts. The exhibition will be followed by a performance by members of the group at 7:15 PM. This performance, which draws on structured improvisations from Upstream Arts classes, features the ideas and creativity of adults with disabilities, providing a unique platform for self-expression through multiple artistic disciplines.

This public program is a culmination of our latest two-week visit to the JCC, which begins January 31. We’re also thrilled to be offering The Art of Social Skills for children and young adults ages 12+ on Monday, February 1 through Thursday, February 4 from 4:15-5:30 PM In this program, participants gain hands-on experience using the arts as a tool for positive self-expression and engagement, allowing for the continued development of vital social/emotional and communication skills. A single session of The Art of Social Skills for children ages 5+ will be offered on Sunday, January 31 from 2-3:30 PM. Detailed program and registration information can be found at www.jccmilwaukee.org.
